The Drug Elimination & Family

Awareness Program (DEFAP) dba

Fiesta Mexicana Dance Company

Fiesta Mexicana Dance Company was formed by Daniel Martinez in 1996, as an after school program for youths of all ages to preserve and promote Mexican dance traditions, ranging from pre-Hispanic to modern.

As the program grew, the needs of the youth involved in the dance company became overwhelmingly apparent.  Many of the youth dancing with the program were “at-risk” individuals, whose alternatives for after school activities included gangs, drugs and violence.

DEFAP was established as a nonprofit organization in 1998

to provide a safe place for youth to go during non-school hours and positive alternatives to unhealthy behaviors.

DEFAP provides:

  • Drug and Violence Prevention Program

  • Homework Assistance and Tutoring

  • Counseling Services

  • Food Distribution Program

  • Arts and Crafts Program

  • Summer Classes

  • Parenting Skills

DEFAP also provides a support system for the entire family that is unique to the Glendale area.  Parents and grandparents, as well as other family members, can participate in the program by volunteering, dancing, and/or attending any of the many classes that are offered.
